SDO will be hosting a Motala-style orienteering event in the western part of our Balboa park map on Saturday July 7, 2007. The registration and start area is just off Balboa Drive (near 6th Avenue) between Quince and Laurel (El Prado). You are encouraged to pre-register at our website so we can prepare adequate maps.
A motala is like a relay, where one person does all the loops. In this motala, each loop will use a different type map. There will be an orienteering map, an aerial photo, a city park map and a topographic map.

Directions
From the North
Take 163 South (from either I-15 or I-805) and exit at the University Avenue exit (the first exit after Interstate 8). Continue straight south, and the exit becomes 6th Avenue. Immediately after Upas Street, turn left into the park on Balboa Drive (which is one-way). Continue on Balboa past the first intersection, then park anywhere along the road - there are two small parking lots in addition to on-street parking, but these tend to fill up early on weekends. The registration is immediately south of the second parking area, near the restrooms.
From the South
Take 163 North from I-5 and exit at Quince Street exit (to reach this exit, you must get on to 163 at its beginning from Interstate 5). Slow down in the offramp - you are driving in the park. At the first intersection, turn left onto Balboa Drive (which is one-way), then start looking for a parking spot, either on-street or in one of two small parking areas. The registration is immediately south of the second parking area, neat the restrooms.
